CoPlanCoast

Community-led action for coastal resilience – long-term impact through co-planning

Core Focus

CoPlanCoast supports coastal restoration and climate resilience across the BANOS area through four local Living Labs, linking community initiatives to formal spatial planning. Combining baseline analysis, Living Lab actions, planning integration and transnational exchange, the project will strengthen community capacity, ocean literacy and co-management.

Challenge

Communities around the Baltic and North Sea must restore coastal ecosystems while adapting to climate change, but face three challenges: limited local capacity (data, expertise, partnerships); weak links between bottom-up initiatives and authority planning, so restoration targets are hard to apply locally; and underused international exchange despite many existing BANOS tools.

Key Activities

  • Run baseline analysis and produce Living Lab action plans.
  • Co-design and implement restoration and climate-adaptation actions in the Labs.
  • Build ocean literacy through photo campaigns and community workshops.
  • Root local actions in regional and local strategic planning.
  • Produce planner guidance and run transnational exchange, webinars and a final seminar.
